Every limit can be narrowed so it only applies to certain customers or regions. Both options appear in the limit editor’s General tab.

Customer tag targeting

Enable Apply this rule only to specific customer tags to restrict the limit to customers carrying certain tags in Shopify — for example wholesale, vip, or b2b.
  1. Check the option in the Customer tag based Rule section.
  2. Click Browse to search and select tags from your store.
Tag-based rules only work for logged-in customers, since Shopify can only identify tags for a known customer. Guests are treated as having no tags.
Typical uses:
  • Give wholesale customers a higher maximum (or no limit) by creating one limit for everyone and a separate, more permissive limit targeted at the wholesale tag
  • Enforce an MOQ only for b2b-tagged customers

Country-based rules

Enable Apply this rule only to specific countries in the Country-based Rule section, then click Browse country and select one or more countries. The limit then only applies to customers ordering from those countries — useful for regional shipping restrictions or country-specific quantity caps.

How multiple limits combine

You can run several limits at once — for example, a store-wide order limit plus targeted product limits. Each active limit is evaluated independently, and the cart must satisfy all of them before checkout is allowed.
Keep names descriptive (e.g. MOQ 10 — wholesale only, Max 2 — US customers) so the Limits list stays easy to scan as rules accumulate.
