# Product upsells

> Recommend extra products inside the cart — AI-picked or hand-picked, with optional discounts.

The **Product upsell** section shows a small product carousel inside the
drawer — "you might also like" — so shoppers can add one more item
without leaving the cart. Find it under **Body → Product upsell**.

## Choose where products come from

Under **Products**, pick one of two sources:

### Smart AI Recommendations

Shopify picks the products automatically, based on what's in the cart.
You choose:

* **Recommendation type** — **Related products** (similar to items in
  the cart) or **Complementary products** (pair well together,
  "often bought together")
* **Number of products** — how many to show (Shopify caps this at 10)

<Tip>
  Complementary recommendations can be curated in Shopify's free
  **Search & Discovery** app — the panel links straight to it. If you
  set up complementary products there, your upsells get noticeably
  smarter.

### Choose Upsell Products Manually

You pick each product (and variant) yourself — **Add product** shows how
many slots you've used. Each product can carry its own discount:

* **No discount**
* **Discounted %** (e.g. 10% off)
* **Discounted amount** (e.g. \$10 off)

The discount is applied automatically when the shopper adds the product
from the drawer.

## Behavior options

| Option                                                            | What it does                                                                      |
| ----------------------------------------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Show 'Saved %' badge                                              | Shows the percent saved when the product has a compare-at price                   |
| Hide if product is already in cart                                | Doesn't recommend something the shopper already added                             |
| Automatically remove upsells from the cart when the cart is empty | If the shopper empties their cart, discounted upsell items are removed too        |
| Allow changing subscription                                       | Lets shoppers switch between one-time and subscription options on upsell products |

## Product-specific upsells

**Product-specific upsells** shows *different* upsells depending on
what's in the cart. Click **Add mapping**, choose a trigger product, and
choose which products to recommend when it's in the cart. Mappings
override the general source while their trigger product is present.

<Tip>
  Map your bestsellers first. "Camera in cart → show memory card and
  case" beats generic recommendations, and you only need mappings for
  your top few products.

## Styling

The **Header** controls the section's title, alignment, color, and font
size. **Styles** covers the carousel — background, text, arrows, button
and badge colors — plus the **Add button text** and a choice of
**Layouts**.

## Yuko Bundles as a source

If you also use **Yuko Bundle Builder & Discounts**, the drawer can
surface your bundles as upsells — look for the Yuko Bundles source
option in the panel.

## Use cases & examples

    Source **Smart AI Recommendations**, type **Complementary
    products**, count `4`. Enable **Hide if product is already in
    cart** and you're done — it improves as your sales data grows.

    Source **Manually**, pick 3–4 low-priced accessories, give each
    **Discounted %** `10`. The Saved badge makes the deal visible.

  <Accordion title="Bestseller pairings" icon="link" description="Each hero product recommends its perfect companions.">
    Use **Product-specific upsells**: map each bestseller to its
    companions (coffee machine → beans + descaler). Everything else
    falls back to AI recommendations.

## Troubleshooting

  <Accordion title="No upsells are showing">
    * AI mode needs recommendation data — brand-new stores may see
      nothing at first. Switch to manual products, or set up
      complementary products in Search & Discovery.
    * **Hide if product is already in cart** can empty the list when
      the shopper has already added everything you recommend.
    * Check the section's toggle is on, and the cart is saved.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="The upsell discount didn't apply">
    Discounts apply when the product is added **from the drawer's
    upsell**, not when added from elsewhere in the store. Also check
    the discount value is set on the right product in the panel.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="A discounted upsell stayed in the cart after everything else was removed">
    Turn on **Automatically remove upsells from the cart when the cart
    is empty** — that's exactly what it's for.
  </Accordion>
